"Hint from Suzune Horikita" (堀北鈴音の予兆, Horikita Suzune no Yochō) is a short story from Toranoana's store privilege for the second volume of You-Zitsu light novel series, together with two more short stories.
Summary[]
Horikita follows a mundane morning schedule which hadn't changed since her childhood. She ponders of how her life as a loner has begun to change. The cause of the change was her neighbour with his seemingly never changing attitude — Ayanokōji Kiyotaka. Although she only considers him as a person who by-chance sat next to her and not even as a friend, she felt that her heart had some different ideas.
As she was seated on her seat in the classroom, she overheard Kushida and Ayanokōji talk about the day they spent together as Ayanokōji entered the classroom. When he reached his desk, Horikita questions Ayanokōji on whether he spent the Sunday with Kushida. Ayanokōji replies that Kushida needed him for some help due to Airi Sakura. Hearing his answer, Horikita felt that Kiyotaka acted differently with Kushida and herself. She felt that it was a matter of intimacy between them. While she was thinking about that, Kiyotaka mentions that she had a frightening look on her face.
She felt that she might have that face due to the change in attitude of Ayanokōji towards her and Kushida. She then questions him about the difference between her and Kushida and why he readily accepts Kushida's requests but is reluctant to hers. Not even understanding why she tried to talk to him about his day off herself, she wonders if she had begun to consider him as a friend but quickly dismissed the thought, saying he wasn't the type of person she likes. She thought that the reason for her irritation was his unmotivated attitude. She concluded that she could only relax if she follows the mindset of not needing any friends.
