"In the Changing Room" (脱衣所の中で, Datsuisho no Naka de) is a short story for volume 8 of 2nd Year arc of You-Zitsu light novel series, from the purchase of MF Tape J 080 collection, with four other short stories.
Summary[]
Horikita and Kushida had retreated to the locker room after an intense endurance competition in the hot bath. It was Ichinose who intervened during their match to prevent them from collapsing due to the heat. Afterward, Ichinose left them in the locker room after being called by her classmate
In the locker room, the exchange between Horikita and Kushida was laced with tension and competitiveness, with Kushida attempting to provoke Horikita. Despite the provocative remarks, Horikita maintained her composure and didn't take the bait. Kushida surprisingly offered Horikita a bottle of cold mineral water in a rare display of understanding and goodwill. As Horikita was about to reject her kind gesture with a jab at her normal behavior, Kushida subtly reminded Horikita to be cautious about their surroundings. It was a not-so-subtle reminder to be careful about what she said in a public place.
Kushida continued to engage in psychological warfare by implying that Horikita must be thirsty after their competition, suggesting that Horikita was on the verge of defeat and should hydrate quickly. Horikita, not one to be easily manipulated, saw through the ploy and declined the offer of water. They engaged in a standoff, with neither willing to back down or give their opponent the satisfaction of victory.
In the end, both Horikita and Kushida left the large bath area without drinking water in each other's presence. As they parted ways, Horikita sought a more peaceful setting to enjoy a well-deserved drink.
