LN Vol 7.5-10

Maya and Kiyotaka at the mall.

In the light novel, after the sports festival in Volume 6, Maya becomes infatuated with Kiyotaka after seeing how fast he ran in the relay race, which is comparable to Manabu Horikita's performance. She was seen flirting to him by telling him how handsome he looked and questioned if he had a girlfriend, while also asking for his contact number, causing Kei to be jealous. In the later scenes, at the theatre lobby, she spotted him and instantly grabbed his arm and remarked if he's being with someone at the cinema in such flirty tone. Little did she know that Airi was also present in the lobby, and is seen very jealous, so flustered and shrieking in a surprised, upset tone.

When Airi asked Kiyotaka why Maya is acting clingy towards him, he replied that she's just his partner at the recently finished exam "Paper Shuffle". Amidst of such denial, the fact that Maya may have a romantic interest in Kiyotaka could not be hidden and may be indisputable as she could just be covering it up from the other girls.

Later on in the series, right after the Ayanokōji Group planned to go to Keyaki Mall, with apologetic voice, Maya called out for Kiyotaka asking if he's free at the moment. However, the latter immediately retorted his unavailability due to his prior commitment to his study group. Seeing that Maya's shoulders droop in disappointment, Kiyotaka made a curveball to the awkward situation by asking if it's fine to ask her out on the winter holidays. Maya gasped with such unexpected response, as Kiyotaka explained that it seemed rude for him to refuse her twice in a row (the first one being his lame excuse that his muscles are stiff to go out). Maya excitedly asked for affirmation of what he promised. The scene ended with Kiyotaka telling that he'll send the details via mail to her. On the other note, while going on their separate paths, Maya joyfully left the class with Satsuki and Kiyotaka perpetually mused on what made her interested in him.

In the light novels, despite not having direct interactions with each other, Airi was seen at the theater lobby spotting her from behind, as Maya grabs Kiyotaka's arms and flirts with him, causing Airi to get very jealous and greatly upset of her interaction with Kiyotaka by becoming so flustered and shriek in a surprised, in an upset tone due to her romantic feelings for him. Airi later then clears up her doubts, overcoming her shyness by asking Kiyotaka the reason he didn't let go of her arm to which he apologized and promised her that he would not repeat the same mistake again.
