"Neighbour" (隣人, Rinjin) is a short story from Melon Books' store privilege for volume 10 of You-Zitsu light novel series, together with other three short stories.

Summary[]

Horikita saw Ayanokouji go past her and talk with Kouenji in a low voice. After his talks with Kouenji, Ayanokouji left the classroom. Seeing him leave the classroom, Horikita without a thought followed after him. Even though he was walking in a not so fast pace, she felt that she wouldn't be able to reach him. Feeling that her words won't get his attention, she grabbed his hand and looked at his ever expressionless face. She asked him what she wanted to know but in return, only got his usual response. She, who wasn't able to comprehend him feared getting closer to him and stood there see him leave.

Soon, she heard a voice coming from behind her. The voice belonged to Kei, who had seen them talking and wondered what they were talking. Answering her, Horikita said that she couldn't earn his trust and felt that he trusted Kei than her and said that she, herself, was also trusting him. To which Kei responded saying you can't trust someone who in return don't trust you and said if Horikita kept fearing to trust him, her relationship with him would never begin, before returning to join her friends.

Horikita believed that Kei's words would remain deep in her heart with the existence of an invisible neighbour.
