Summary[]
The SS starts with an introduction to the Advanced Nurturing High School, where Kiyotaka Ayanokōji attends.
Kiyotaka is waiting for the lift in his dormitory building, not wanting to waste stamina by taking the stairs. When it arrives, he is met by three classmates: Suzune Horikita, Kikyō Kushida, and Airi Sakura. Suzune presses him to get in. Kiyotaka notes how Suzune, while being a beautiful girl well-versed in academics and martial arts, has a terrible personality and is an isolated person. After getting in, Kikyō cheerfully greets him and points out his hair. Kiyotaka describes Kikyō as a popular student among the first-years, who has no aspect to criticise from her outer appearance. Yet, she has a dark side that Kiyotaka thinks is very frightening. Airi shyly greets him from the corner. Kiyotaka recalls her true identity being a former magazine idol, and how she is evaluated by the boys as a real beauty. However, she is extremely shy with strangers and has to wear fake glasses to conceal her identity.
The four arrive at the entrance hall and go to school together, with Kiyotaka pointing out how strange of a group they are. Suzune and Airi reply that Kikyō took them along together earlier in the morning. Kikyō explains she wants to invite them all to go together as they are going on a school trip soon. Suzune mentions the trip is only in two weeks and there is nothing in particular to do. Kikyō argues that it can get lonely since the ship is very big from what she has heard. She then invites Airi to join her group for the trip, Kiyotaka also urges Airi to participate, saying it's an opportunity and lies that he is already going with Sudō's group to help her feel more relaxed. Suzune disputes the thought of being alone would be lonely, then rejects Kikyō's invitation to join her group as well. They then meet Honami Ichinose, a student in B-Class. She inquires on the topic they are talking about. Kikyō answers that they are discussing about the upcoming trip and asks Honami to join, which she excitedly accepts.
Kiyotaka thinks Honami is a special girl, with explanation on the classes ranking system of the school. Honami expresses her wish of chatting to Suzune and Airi more, but Suzune refuses, saying she isn't interested. Honami understands and hands out her e-mail address, telling Suzune to contact her if she has time. Suzune questions Honami whether it is better to just leave people like her alone, and the topic shifts to enjoying youth. Honami tells Suzune the scene they are having, including all of them, at that very moment is youth, and that Suzune cannot be sure if she doesn't enjoy it. Suzune gives up on refuting Honami.
Kiyotaka is still not able to understand the meaning of it, but believes the scene in front of his eyes at that moment has to be one page of youth. He stands still quietly to not disturb the four girls. They notice him and turn to check on him. Honami asks if he feels excluded, then grabs his wrist and pulls him along, telling him with a smile that he is also a page of their youth. She urges him to hurry up or they will just leave him there behind.
Kiyotaka wonders when he can get the answer, whether it's one year, two years, or the moment he graduates from the school. He feels a premonition sprouting in the depths of his heart, that the day he can clearly see this kind of time as a precious and irreplaceable thing will definitely come.
