Summary[]
Aboard a cruise, Ike, Sudō, Yamauchi and Ayanokōji were looking at the ocean around them and enjoying their summer vacation. Ike then excitedly asked Sudō how he felt after narrowly missing the expulsion and being able to join them on the cruise. He then said that it would be impossible to board such a cruise under normal circumstances. Sudō trying to show off said that the threat of expulsion was just an opportunity for him to show his true strength.
Hearing them, Ayanokōji thought how the two week trip on the cruise was only possible because the school was government-funded. Furthermore, the cruise had comprehensive facilities ranging from restaurant to theatre and even a high-class spa. He then wondered if they had to live for a week on an uninhabited island and a week thereafter on the ship. While he was wondering that, Ayanokōji was called by Kushida who asked him the whereabouts of Horikita. He answered that he didn't know about her and guessed that she might be in her cabin. Kushida agreed that he might be true and said that she was looking forward to swimming freely on the island's beach.
While they were talking, an announcement on a speaker asked all the students to gather on the deck as the island would soon be in view and the scenery that can be seen can hold a particular significance later. Ayanokōji thought about the strange announcement while Ike said that the island was in sight. While Ayanokōji was busy looking at the island, a Class A student pushed him and high-handedly declared that the school follows meritocracy and students from Class D should behave themselves as he was from Class A. Even though he was pissed at the student, Sudō calmly retreated without making a scene as was noted by Ayanokōji.
When they moved to another place, Hirata called out to them. Seeing Hirata, Ike asked about his progress with Kei, his girlfriend. Startled by the sudden question, Hirata answered that they were taking their time with their relationship and quickly left them saying he received a mail from Miyake who had run into some trouble. After seeing him leave, Ike and Yamauchi discussed how Kei had become less clingy to him lately and wondered if they had broken up and as such, another rival for them had appeared. Ike then declared to Yamauchi that he would confess to Kushida during their trip. Yamauchi asked about how awkward he would feel if he was rejected due to a sudden confession. Ike said that it would only be awkward if it was sudden and called out to Kushida. Ike asked her if it would be okay to call her by her first name. Kushida agreed and asked if she could call him Kanji. Kanji hearing her felt ecstatic.
Hearing Ike asks Kushida, Sudō looking at Ayanokōji asked what is Horikita's first name. While wondering why he was looking at him, Ayanokōji said that it was Tomiko. Sudō said that Tomiko was a cute name and felt it was perfect. Ayanokōji then said that he had misremembered and said that it was Suzune. Sudō blushingly says that he would try calling Horikita by her first name. Ayanokōji wondered why would no one call him by his first name. Sudō then grabbed Ayanokōji and said that he wanted to practice asking Horikita to call her by her first name. Ayanokōji refused him, saying that he wasn't Horikita and couldn't help him. While Sudō was asking Ayanokōji to help him, Ike mockingly mimicked Horikita and said that Sudō wasn't her type. Hearing him, Sudō angrily grabbed him by his neck while Ike apologised.
As the ship horn blared, Kushida called out the boys who were goofing around and asked them to look at the shore. While looking at the beach, Ayanokōji noticed how the ship was making a full circle around the island before stopping at the pier. Suddenly, an announcement regarding the disembarkment on the beach was made. The announcement asked students to change into their jerseys and assemble on the deck. The announcement stated that students must leave their phones with their homeroom teacher.
After having changed his clothes, Ayanokōji made his way towards the deck. On his way to the deck, he met Horikita, who until then was reading a book in her room. Ayanokōji noted that despite always being prim and proper, she was surprisingly dishevelled. After they reached the deck, they saw Ike who was complaining about having to leave their cell-phones behind. After everyone was gathered, Class A's homeroom teacher announced that they would be taking a roll call of the students and later said that due to illness, a student wasn't able to join them on their trip.
Mashima then announced the start of the first special exam and explained about the deserted island special exam and what it entailed. Mashima then explained the rules and rewards for the special exam. Unable to wrap their minds around the term 'special exam' students began murmuring amongst themselves. Hearing them, Mashima added that this type of outing was a common occurrence in major corporations as part of their training. After explaining the rules, Mashima said that this exam didn't have any negative impacts on their second term but the rewards in this exam would come in handy. The students were then given a waterproof watch which was equipped with sensors measuring pulse rate and body temperature as well as a GPS. It also had an emergency button in cases of emergencies.
After Mashima explained the basic rules, Sae Chabashira joined Class D and provided them with the manual for the exam. The manual listed detailed rules and rewards for the exam. After answering some of their doubts, Sae showed them a makeshift cardboard toilet and asked them to use it for going to the toilet. Seeing the cardboard toilet, Shinohara vehemently opposed to using it. Ike tried to make her agree to use the cardboard toilet to save the points but she refused.
While Ike and Shinohara were arguing, Chie Hoshinomiya came over to them and leaned on Sae. Sae informed that eavesdropping on other classes' information was against the school's rules but Chie playfully disregarded her. Sae asked her to leave but Chie again disregarded her and called out to Ayanokōji who was standing there. Ayanokōji not wanting to get involved quickly bowed his head. Sae threatened Chie to report her if she continued and asked her to leave. Chie feeling the glare from Sae left them. After Chie left, Sae continued her explanation from before. She explained about specific places on the island that would be regarded as 'spots' and these 'spots' when occupied provide a point at the end of the exam to class occupying it. She then continued saying that the 'spot' occupying rule carried a big risk.
