Summary[]
Still having Kushida's head resting on his chest, Kiyotaka didn't know what to say. Shortly after, she apologizes for her actions, adding that she felt a little sad all of a sudden. Embarrassed, Kushida wished him a good night and runs off. Alone on the deck of the cruiser, Kiyotaka admits to himself that this caught him off guard.
After leaving the deck, he decides to buy a drink from a vending machine. As he took his drink, he heard people talking nearby. After walking around for a bit, Kiyotaka sees Sae Chabashira, Chie Hoshinomiya, and Tomonari Mashima chatting at a bar on the cruise ship. He didn't imagine that the three teachers would get along, and he decides to stay close to listen to their conversation. At first, they talked a bit about their love lives and how Chie is capable of breaking up with anyone before the relationship "gets serious". But later, Chabashira asks her why Honami was not in the Dragon group, reminding her that it was normal for representatives of all classes to make up that group. Chie replies that even though she knows she's pretty much the top student in her class, she thinks she's better suited to being part of the Rabbit group, pointing out that she sometimes looks like a rabbit. Mashima wonders why Chabashira asked this, and Chabashira replies that she doesn't want to let her emotions affect her decisions. Chie then questions her if she meant the events that occured ten years ago, which she thought they had already left behind. Chabashira states that she is never satisfied unless she is one step ahead and believes that is why she placed Honami in the Rabbit group. Also, she finds it curious that Chie took an interest in Kiyotaka after they finished the island exam. Chie retorts that it's just a coincidence and adds rather than that Sae seemed quite glad when Kiyotaka took the position of the leader. Mashima interrupts their debate and tells them that he would prefer not to have conflicts between co-workers. Finally, all three teachers agree that this year's students were quite interesting. Having heard enough, Kiyotaka leaves to go back to his room. With this, he had found out that Ichinose was assigned to the Rabbit group to keep an eye on him.
The next day, meeting Suzune at the same restaurant as last time, he apologizes to her for not stopping Kōenji from sending his reply ahead of time. Changing the subject, Kiyotaka wants her as a girl to tell him some things about Karuizawa. Although she had been invited to lunch with her, Suzune informs him that they haven't interacted since then, and if he really needs information, he should ask Yōsuke Hirata. He explains that a few days ago he turned down an offer of his for lunch. She asks him if he considers her to be the VIP of their group, and while that was partly true, Kiyotaka wanted to understand her behavior. Suzune doesn't understand what's so special about his behavior and considers it just a waste of time. He argues that people are always prone to judge others based solely on superficial traits: clothing, speech, and other factors; but as he said, they were superficial and might not really be what they appear. After hearing this, she asks him to explain what he thinks this hidden side of Karuizawa is like. Though he can't put it into concrete words, Kiyotaka believes it to be her "ability to conquer"; she has the character and the power, and as an example of this he mentions her status in Class D, which is unflappable. However, he thinks to himself that Karuizawa hasn't shown this side of her in the Rabbit group, and this is the strange behavior he was referring to. Suzune asks if, assuming she really does have that side, he would want to make her an ally. However, Kiyotaka replies that he will have to consider it.
While they were talking, Ryūen arrives again and takes a seat at the table, despite knowing that he was not received. Suzune reiterates to him that even if he persists in approaching them he won't be able to get anything in return, however, he only says that he will have to decide that. Ryūen asks her if she has decided to find the VIP, but she states that even if she knew, she wouldn't tell him. He comments that it's a shame, because he wanted to talk to her about this matter. Suzune asks him if he knows who the VIP is, although she didn't really take him seriously. Ryūen laughs, explaining that he has discussed it with all the students in Class C, and if he really was lying then he wouldn't have come in the first place. In response, she tells him that he is insane. Ryūen is nonchalant, stating that he is already in the "final phase"; after bidding farewell to her unilaterally, he gets up from his chair and leaves. Suzune was about to resume her conversation with Kiyotaka, but Kiyotaka puts his index finger to her lip to tell her to be quiet. Then, without saying anything, the two look under the chair Ryūen was sitting on and find a cell phone, left on recording mode, taped to it.
