The Survival and Elimination Special Exam (サバイバルと脱落の特別試験, Sabaibaru to Datsuraku no Tokubetsu Shiken) is a competitive test in which all four second-year classes face each other over multiple turns in a series of knowledge and skill challenges.

Overview[]

The exam is divided into 20 turns, with each class alternately attacking and defending against its neighboring class in a set rotation. In each attack, a class selects a subject category, a difficulty level, and nominates opposing students to answer questions. Correct answers earn points, while repeated incorrect answers can lead to student elimination, reducing the class’s score. At the end of the exam, class rankings determine class point gains or losses, and under certain conditions, an eliminated student from the lowest-ranked class may face expulsion unless saved by special means.[1]

Rules[]

Scope & Layout[]

Second-years only. Four classes arranged in a square; attacks go to adjacent class (not diagonal). 20 turns total: 10 turns clockwise (first half), then 10 turns counter-clockwise (second half). One “turn” = A→B, B→C, C→D, D→A.

Categories (16)[]

Literature, History, Science, Society, Sports, Entertainment, Music, Economics, General Knowledge, English, Arithmetic, News, Kanji, Lifestyle, Gourmet Food, Subculture.

Attack Phase[]

Choose a category + difficulty (1–3). To pick level 2 or 3, you must spend previously earned points (1 point per +1 difficulty). Nominate five students from the target class. You may repeat categories and target the same student repeatedly. Time limit: 3 minutes to submit; if you run out of time, remaining slots fill randomly. Attacking itself does not earn points.

Defense Phase[]

The leader has 3 minutes to name up to five protected students from their class. If a protected student is among the five nominated by the attacker, they are treated as correct automatically. If the leader times out, remaining protections are filled randomly.

Excluded Categories (per student)[]

Before the exam, each student may exclude up to three of the 16 categories; attackers cannot choose those excluded categories.

Scoring & Elimination[]

Each correct (or protected) answer = +1 point. Wrong answers don’t deduct points. A student who gets 3 total wrong answers is eliminated and can’t be targeted further; each elimination gives the class −1 point (score can go negative).

Leader Safety[]

The leader never answers tasks, cannot be targeted, and is safe from elimination/expulsion in this exam.

Conduct & Breaks[]

Phones/whispering allowed except while the selected students are solving. 10-minute break every 4 turns; 40-minute break after the 10th turn. Restroom use only during the 10-minute breaks. Students unable to continue (illness/disruption) are treated as eliminated; cheating ⇒ immediate elimination and all points forfeited.

Rewards & Penalties[]

Rewards[]

Class Point rewards:

  • 1st: +100
  • 2nd & 3rd: -50
  • 4th: -100

If multiple classes tie for top, an extension decides; if all four tie, all classes receive -100.

Penalties[]

If the lowest-ranked class has any eliminated students, the leader must choose one eliminated student to expel. If there’s a tie for last, multiple classes may expel. Exceptions: 20 million Private Points buy-back or a Protection Point on the selected student.

Results[]

Class Exam Score Class Points
Ryūen's Class 69 734 ▲ (+100)
Ichinose's Class 62 655 ▼ (-50)
Horikita's Class 59 985 ▼ (-50)
Sakayanagi's Class 53 1100 ▼ (-100)
