Swimsuit Short Story Kikyō Kushida

Special Illustration by Yuyu Ichino

On the last day of their summer vacation, Ayanokouji, Kushida, Horikita, Ike and the others went to the swimming pool to play their hearts out. While Ayanokouji and Kushida were sitting in the corner of the pool, a male student approached Kushida and confessed to her. Kushida politely declined him and said she doesn't have any intention to have a boyfriend then.

After declining the boy who approached her, Kushida returned to her seat and began to dip her feet in the pool and asked Ayanokouji to do the same to which Ayanokouji declined. Kushida then began to talk with Ayanokouji about the coming 2nd term. Ayanokouji who just replied shortly felt that even if he had come in contact with many girls since the start of the school, Kushida was the only one he was still nervous around. He, who knew that she despised him, wasn't able to get rid of his nervousness around her. But still, he felt that if Kushida ever confessed to him, he would probably accept it, not that it was possible.

Ayanokouji then without intending to said that she was indeed popular to which Kushida declined and said that the confession earlier was just a sort of extended greeting and nothing else. She also added that Ayanokouji was placed higher in secret rankings between the girls and he was probably confessed to. She then asked if he was ever confessed by Horikita. Ayanokouji bluntly denied and said that it was impossible that she would ever confess to him or he, ever confessing to her.

Ayanokouji, then, feels that he isn't able to understand Kushida and wondered why she asked him about Horikita. Feeling that she had asked something weird, Kushida apologized. Seeing her apologize, Ayanokouji wondered why he wasn't able to look at Kushida's face while talking to her. Then until the rest of the members who had gone swimming, came back, he and Kushida silently watched the waves in the swimming pool.
