"The Complex Mind of a Maiden" (複雑な少女の心境, Fukuzatsuna Shōjo no Shinkyō) is a short story from Melon Books' store privilege for volume 5 of You-Zitsu light novel series, along with another short story.
Summary[]
During the sports festival, Kei Karuizawa participated in the calvary event representing D-Class with Satsuki Shinohara as the horse, and herself as the rider.
Before the start of the event, Satsuki expressed her distress about not having a battle strategy, to which Kei responded with no such concern, as in her opinion playing seriously to an extent was all that was needed. Satsuki, however, found a contradiction in Kei's philosophy, as she was the one who opposed Suzune Horikita's strategy of assigning people to events by merit, in favour of fun. Kei completely agreed with Suzune's strategy but Kiyotaka Ayanokōji ordered her to oppose Suzune which led to the particular contradiction. Kei dodged the subject and set the battle tactic to go with the flow, to which Satsuki agreed.
As the calvary event started, Satsuki and Kei found themselves pushing their capabilities far beyond what they had originally intended, as Satsuki did not want to lose in such a lame fashion, and Kei did not want to disappoint Kiyotaka, even though she was not the type to try hard. Kei reflected while Calvary fighting Honami Ichinose, that Shiho Manabe and her group did not come close to her anymore. She concluded that Kiyotaka did something to protect her and that she's only trying hard for him because of that. However, Kei acknowledged that Kiyotaka was changing her in a way she did not dislike.
