Summary[]
On the last day of their spring break, Ayanokōji wondered what his classmates would be feeling on the last evening of their spring break. While looking forward to going to the school next morning, he reminisced about the past year and wondered what would become of Class D the coming year.
While he was thinking about that, his phone started ringing. He knew about the caller without even looking at the screen. It was Karuizawa Kei, a classmate who had now became more than a friend. Even after the confession, Ayanokōji hadn't contacted her for some days. It was Kei, who earlier that day had informed that she would call him at 10 PM. Even though he was greeted by an energetic voice, he replied a clumsy manner. Kei, after being met with a clumsy reply, said that he was blunt. Ayanokōji, wanting to make up for the clumsy greeting, tried sounding more like a boyfriend and said that he was waiting for her call. Hearing him say that, Kei tumbled and fell from the bed. After talking some deep breaths and calming herself down, Kei asked if he was actually telling the truth about waiting for her call. Ayanokōji said that wasn't it normal for one to wait for a call from their lover which lead to Kei replying that it wasn't something she had expected to hear from him.
When asked by Kei about the reason he hadn't contacted her till then, Ayanokōji said that he was waiting for her to take the initiative to call him herself. He thought that their relationship up till then was distorted. It was a relationship between the one using and the one being used. But now the relationship that wasn't even classmates or friends had evolved to being that of lovers. After a small banter like that, Kei then casually began talking about her daily life. Ayanokōji, who hadn't had a chance to have a conversation like that before felt it to be novel and fresh. He felt that even though the topics he was able to came up with were something most people wouldn't enjoy, Kei was listening to him, clearly enjoying herself. After talking for a while, Ayanokōji began feeling drowsy and asked Kei if they should end the call as they were nearly talking for an hour. Kei agreed with Ayanokōji but hesitated to end the call and asked Ayanokōji to do it himself. Getting permission from Kei, Ayanokōji hung up the call without hesitating and prepared to go to the bed.
After few moments, his phone rang again. The caller was none other than Karuizawa Kei. He felt that she might have forgotten to tell him something and picked up the phone. As he picked the phone, Ayanokōji was met with an ear-splitting scream from Kei, who chided him for not even hesitating for a second. She asked him to feel at least a bit sad for ending the call after having so much fun. She then asked him to end the call without making her mad. Ayanokōji, not understanding how to proceed without making her angry, tried to search the internet but Kei said that he won't find anything with searching. Ayanokōji then trying his best to quell her anger, said that even he was sad to end the call but the reason he hung up was because he wanted to see her tomorrow and added that if they continued to talk then today would never come to an end. Kei, feeling the same, let him off the hook this time and agreed to let him end the call.
Ayanokōji hanging up the phone, thought that the spring break had finally come to an end. He felt that the next day a new school life was awaiting him. He felt that even though he wanted his life to be calm and peaceful, the unpredictability of his school life was what made it fun.
