"Unfathomable" (計り知れないもの, Hakarishirenai Mono) is a short story from Melon Books' store privilege for volume 3 of 2nd Year arc of You-Zitsu light novel series, together with other three short stories.
Summary[]
Even though statistics favored males in the contest of stamina, Nanase believed that there wasn't much difference between Ayanokōji and her. The reason for such a belief being her training herself since she was young. But seeing him only using half of his strength to accomplish tasks far more efficiently than her, she began doubting her belief.
While she watched him climb the cliff that she had trouble climbing, Nanase felt that she wouldn't be able to follow him now as she had done until then. Thinking that everything would end if she falls back, Nanase forcibly resolved herself and began climbing the cliff. Even though her hands were at their limits, she still stretched her arms and grabbed the rocky surface. Seeing her climbing behind him, Ayanokōji warned her that falling from that height would be fatal and she would inevitably have to retire from the exam. She felt that staying with him was more important than retiring in the exam and began climbing again. Watching her, desperately trying to catch up to him, Ayanokōji held his hand to her asked her to grab it. Nanase tried to refuse, but he forcibly asked her to grab his hand, not wanting to waste any more time arguing. Nanase felt that Ayanokōji was not normal while she recalled his fight with Hōsen. Being forced, Nanase reluctantly agreed to his offer. She then asked if he had any prior experience to this in rock climbing.
Answering her in negative, Ayanokōji pulled her up along with her heavy backpack. Nanase felt that he was a person with unfathomable abilities and wondered if she would defeat him when the time comes but she knew that he was a person that must be defeated to drag 'that person' out. As dragging 'that person' out was the sole reason, she had entered the school for.
