"Voice of the Heart" (心の声, Kokoro no Koe) is a short story for the first volume of 2nd Year arc of You-Zitsu light novel series, from the purchase of MF Tape J 049 collection, together with other three short stories.
Summary[]
After watching Horikita leave the library, Nanase commended her for her hard work in a low voice, stating that she wished to become someone like her. Ayanokōji said it was in part because of Horikita's duty as a class leader. He then asked Nanase if she had any plans on how she would convince Hōsen.
Thinking of it as a chance, Nanase said that she would answer him only after he tells her about himself. She then elaborated that Ayanokōji wasn't a class leader like Horikita, and thus wondered what kind of person he was. Nanase inwardly felt that she had said too much and should stop, but continued asking her questions regardless as he continued to look at her in silence.
After a moment, she began to feel that he might have misunderstood what she wanted to ask, when suddenly Ayanokōji confirmed that it wasn't about his relationship with Horikita. His reply made her feel as if he had understood everything she wanted to ask. Wanting to know a specific answer, Nanase began to say that she thought of him as a wicked and filthy human being, and as far as she was concerned, he looked like a regular person. Ayanokōji continued listening to her insults without showing any sign of getting angry, as if he was trying to confirm her intentions.
Feeling as if asking anything more on the topic would be a demerit to her, Nanase quickly apologized and asked him to forget the conversation that had just happened. She had expected him to ask more about the topic, but that never came to pass. She wondered if it was because he understood everything she wanted to ask or was it because... before cutting off her thoughts abruptly.
