Summary[]
After seeing off Ayanokōji and returning to her seat, Hiyori remembered something she had forgotten in the excitement of their reunion. Retrieving the item from her bag, she offered a slight bow to the librarian before hurrying into the hallway.
Despite being slightly breathless, she approached Ayanokōji and handed him a tightly held book as a gift. Worried that he might not understand its significance, she revealed that it was one of her favorites and suggested he read it when he had the chance.
Ayanokōji astutely deduced the author, prompting Shinna to admit she had initially intended to keep the title a secret. She explained her reluctance to give a book he might have already read and her preference for personally owning her favorite books. Shinna disclosed that this particular book, authored by a relative, wasn't available in the library. Despite Ayanokōji's initial hesitation, Shinna reassured him, mentioning that it was the third time she had bought the book and emphasizing that he would surely like it.
Upon Ayanokōji's acceptance of her gift, Shinna felt relieved but was taken aback when he asked if she had carried the book until they met. Though flustered, she downplayed the significance, assuring him it had only been a few days. As the conversation unfolded, Shinna became increasingly self-conscious and, deciding to avoid revealing more vulnerability, bid him farewell abruptly, retreating back to the library.
Left alone, she caught the librarian's knowing smile, sparking uncertainty about how much they had overheard. Denying any romantic implications, she returned to her seat, enveloped once again in the familiar silence of the library. Despite her attempts to maintain composure, the day felt oddly lonely, leaving a lingering sense of embarrassment in the air.
